I have done this activity as a warm up reviewing the vocabulary presented on the previous class.
I divided the class in two groups. Each student from group A got a popsicle stick with a word, while each student from group B got a paper slip with a definition. The obvious procedure after that was: “Find your match.” Then, students moved around looking for the matching pairs – word/definition.
After this easy and quick part, each pair had to come to the white board to write a correct sentence with their word.
1. You may want to reuse the popsicle sticks with the same words in a future activity. Print a text with gaps in a large paper (or just handwrite it if it is easier), lay it on the classroom floor, and have students put the popsicle sticks with the words in the correct gaps to fill in the blanks.
2. Put all the sticks in a bag and introduce a story. Next, have a student pull out a stick from the bag so that he/she can continue the story using that word. Continue around the class until all the words are coherently included in the story.
